Philippe Manteau
Philippe’s practice focuses on growth, mid-cap, and large private or public companies, governmental organizations, and individuals in the United States and abroad in the areas of corporate and business law, as well as technology transactions. The core of his practice consists of assisting French, European, and other international companies in their U.S. investments and cross-border transactions, dispute resolutions, and litigation. He also serves as outside U.S. general counsel to a variety of European clients, providing day-to-day legal and business counsel in matters of all types. Based on his training and international experience, Philippe can identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues arising in cross-border transactions and litigation for foreign and U.S. clients.
Philippe first worked as a French and EU attorney in Europe, where he established the Paris-based merger/antitrust and commercial law practice of Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, a U.K and international law firm. He later became the U.S. head of the European Union desk of Donahue & Partners, an American firm allied with Ernst & Young. Transitioning into a U.S. lawyer, he became an attorney and then a partner at major British and U.S. law firms (such as Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, Watson, Farley & Williams, Loeb & Loeb, and Schiff Hardin) before launching Manteau Downes LLP.
Philippe has a strong understanding of foreign clients’ cultures and needs when it comes to their U.S. investments and litigation. A dual French-American citizen living and working in the United States, Philippe is a frequent speaker at various seminars and events.
After more than 10 years as a “big law” partner, culminating as Chair of Schiff Hardin’s International Practice Group, Philippe is bringing his experience to the next level of dedication and personalized service to his clients at Manteau Downes LLP.
